Zimmerman: the reason Americans should not have guns

Sam Hasiewicz, Writer

After murdering an unarmed Trayvon Martin in 2012 and being acquitted for his crime, George Zimmerman is now auctioning off the gun he used to kill Martin. As if it is not enough that Zimmerman killed an innocent boy, now he is showing it off as if it were some kind of trophy.

To start, Zimmerman had a restraining order for domestic violence complaint for threatening his wife and her father with a gun, threatened a driver on the road with a gun, murdered an unarmed boy and was charged for aggravated assault, but has still not been incarcerated.

Now, he is selling his gun on GunBroker.com, only to receive fake bids by Internet trolls aiming to make the going price as high as possible. Since too many bids on this website were fake, Zimmerman changed his gun auction to another site in hopes of selling it and using the money to help “Black Lives Matter” violence against police officers and oppose “Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric.”

Given his previous crimes, Zimmerman is the last person who should represent any opposition to gun regulations. As can be seen, Zimmerman only uses guns to threaten or kill innocent people as opposed to using it for his own projection. Overall, it is ridiculous that he is somehow not in jail and still has firearms in his possession. Even though the job of the United States justice system is to keep people like Zimmerman off the streets, somehow that job was overlooked during his multiple trials.

Zimmerman is not the only man getting away with this. Across the United Sates, there are similar senseless acts happening due to poor gun regulation. Whether they get away with it or not, lives are still lost. A solution in ending the terror that Zimmerman and others like him have caused is increasing the gun regulations of the United States. It should not be this hard to have a gun taken away from a serious threat, and regulations should not be this loose for said threat to obtain a gun in the first place.

In order to save innocent lives, it is vital that the United States government fix these obvious mistakes that only end in more killings.
