Under the glow of Friday night lights, Glenbard South students packed the bleachers in bright neon, cheerleaders led chants to get the crowd cheering and the marching band played the fight song– all part of the unforgettable Homecoming celebration at Glenbard South High School.
The Glenbard South Raiders varsity football team fell 21-17 in a hard-fought Homecoming battle against Riverside Brookfield on Oct. 3. Despite the loss, Glenbard South opened the second half strong. Elijah Donahue rushed for two touchdowns, putting the Raiders ahead 14-7. He finished with 113 yards on 24 carries. While the outcome was not what the Raiders hoped for, the contest exposed key strengths and growth opportunities for the football team.
Although most of the attention was focused on the intense, yet thrilling football game, there was more fun in the atmosphere. The energy extended beyond the sidelines, making Homecoming a celebration for the entire school community.
The Homecoming Court winners were recognized during the halftime of the football game, a Kona Ice Truck served up sweet treats, fun giveaways were featured for the crowd and routines from both the cheerleaders and the dance team added to the night’s excitement. In addition, a long-standing tradition for not only Homecoming week, but for Glenbard South altogether is the acknowledgment of the Alumni that gathered alongside the current Raider community.

The Homecoming festivities also helped build excitement and energy at the big game. A spirit week was held with themes such as: Grade Colors, Mochas and Music, Country vs Country Club, Rhyme without Reason and Raider Wear. The pep rally held on Friday kicked off with energy and enthusiasm, bringing students together and setting the tone for the memorable night ahead.
Despite the outcome not favoring the Raiders, they left the field in pride, proving their heart, hustle, and homecoming spirit stronger than ever. Backed by a packed venue, roaring student section and a community that showed up in full swing, the night was a celebration of unity, resilience and the unmistakable energy that only Glenbard South and Homecoming under the lights can bring.
