February 2, 2026 marked an important day in Raider history when the Glenbard South’s girls basketball team made it to the Super-Sectional game for the third time in school history, defeating Aurora Central Catholic in the Sectional Championship. The only other times the girls basketball team made it to the Super-Sectional were in 2018 and in 2019,which made it especially emotional for the seven seniors as only four players are returning for the 2026-27 season.
The first time the Raiders played Trinity was on Trinity’s home court, in a close game down to the fourth quarter. However, during that quarter, two Raiders were injured, solidifying Trinity’s win 38-44. It was a hard fought game and every second counted, but the ball would not fall in those late minutes. After that loss, the Raiders went on a 15-0 run until they arrived at the Super-Sectional game.
The Super-Sectional game was held at Concordia University in River Forest, and the Raiders faced Trinity once again. The Raiders suffered a loss of starting guard Kaitlin Erickson due to a sprained ankle, which sidelined her just before the game. The crowd was electric, with both teams filling the bleachers with fans and parents, each side trying to intimate the other. Freshman Jordan Bailey led the Raiders in scoring that game with 15 points, showing off her skills and potential as a first-year player. Unfortunately, the Raiders lost after a hard fought battle with a final score of 36-50, leaving Trinity to advance to the Final Four.
Senior Kate Bruhl opened up about her last season on the team: “My favorite memory of the team was senior night. Most of us have been playing together our entire lives, so for all of us to share that moment together was really special! The team overcame a lot to get to Super Sectionals, so when it was time for playoffs, we had to bring it because we knew what was on the line if we didn’t.” The leadership of the senior class played a crucial role in the team’s achievements, which set a standard for future Raiders to follow.
Even though the game was a hard loss for the Glenbard South’s girls basketball team, it showed the team’s determination, finishing the season 29-5 overall and 12-0 in conference. The girls fought hard for the seven seniors, making it to the Elite Eight, the farthest towards State since 2019. It marked a huge step for the program by giving a push to the future seasons of what can be accomplished.
