Winning Glenbard Cup, 2023

May flowers aren’t the only thing April showers bring; the Glenbard South girls’ soccer season is just around the corner! Whether you’ve played soccer competitively, recreationally, or never touched a ball before, joining the girls’ soccer team here at South is a great way to hone your skills. With a consistent winning record in conference, players can expect to face high competition on the varsity level. Practicing almost everyday after school will prepare athletes for matches, and improve themselves as team members. Working towards the ultimate goal of a successful season record pushes everyone in the sport to consistently work hard in order to reap the rewarding feeling of accomplishment.

Throughout the season, you will not only enhance your soccer skills through valuable practice and experience, but also discover a sense of community within the team. From pasta dinners to movie nights, the girls’ soccer program is one of the closest-knit communities at Glenbard South. Making new friends and building new relationships is a key part of the season; developing chemistry with teammates takes place on and off the field. When asked about her experience on the Glenbard South girls’ soccer team for the past three years, senior and captain Mary Kate Pinkelman stated, “Every year the season is so much fun. I have grown so much as a person and player because of the support from coaches and team every year. The environment is just so great to be in–from film and bagels to team dinners”.

The girls’ soccer program at South, from Junior Varsity to the Varsity roster, is looking for driven athletes that will always give 100% and add to the team’s positive energy. Tryouts this year will be held on February 26th on the main field after school, but students looking to play in the spring can attend open gyms held throughout February (see below for dates).  For more information, you can email Varsity girls soccer coach Kevin Berner ([email protected]) or assistant coach Bill Hiles ([email protected]). Good luck to everyone coming out to play, new and returning players. Go Raiders!
