La Semaine Francophone

Maggie Falkenberg, School News Writer

Each year, schools across the country take a week to recognize counties across the globe that speak the French language. While countries such as France and portions of Canada are known as the main French-speaking countries, the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) tries to recognize less known Francophone destinations. This year, National French week took place from November third through ninth. Glenbard South’s French Club, however, decided to alter these dates and hold its planned festivities the week of November eighth through twelfth.

On Monday, the 8th, French classes levels one through AP decorated the commons hallway with french speaking countries flags, fun french posters, and photos taken in the french green screen photo booth the Friday before. Students could find this same photo booth during their lunch periods on Tuesday, the 9th. There, students could travel through a photo to destinations such as Paris, Belgium, Djibouti, and Martinique. On Wednesday, Students held a french trivia event. Throughout the week, French classes also participated in the nationwide Francophone trivia contest. The Schools finalist chosen was Colin Laungrath. Colin will have the chance to win the top prize of two hundred dollars in the national finals.

Students who participated in any french activities throughout the week received raffle tickets. The winners of this raffle, announced Monday the fifteenth during the weekly announcements, were Connor Del Alcazar for hallway decorating, Mars Brabenec for the French photo shoot, and Michael Alam for French Trivia.
