A Frighteningly Good Movie

Cassidy Shirley, Scoop Writer

When the first of eight “Saw” movies came out in 2004, many viewers were hooked on the thrilling storyline in which players “played a game” to fight for their lives. The new addition to this series, “Jigsaw”, tops the preceding movies in the series ten-fold.

The whole movie series follows the main character Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw, and his quest to teach sinners that they need to pay for the bad things that they have done. Each movie features a new group of five subjects that Jigsaw picks to enter the “game”. The game is more like a mind maze where players are put under pressure and are forced to make quick decisions, and they must make the correct decision if they are to escape with their lives.

The eighth movie in the series goes along with this same concept, but the reasons for the players being in the game are radically different which makes the audience’s suspense build through the last minutes of the movie. While people in the audience may think that they know the ins and outs of this mind-boggling movie, they will be mistaken.

James Wan, director of “Death Sentence” and “The Conjuring” and writer Leigh Whannel, the voice behind “Dead Silence” and three “Insidious” movies, are the geniuses behind this heart-pounding new movie. By combining the two masterminds’ experience in horror and thriller movies, this movie is bound to be a hit.

The flawless camera angles and perfectly times background music throughout the whole movie makes the audience’s suspense build until they are at the edge of their seats, biting their nails wondering what will happen next.

One downside to “Jigsaw” is that it is rated R because of the gory scenes that it contains. This could be a negative to younger teens who want to see this movie because they must be accompanied by an adult. Also, “Jigsaw” possesses many concepts and scenes that may not be suitable for younger audiences, but for people looking for a captivating film, this movie is for them.

There are hardly any boring scenes throughout the film, but since the genre is mystery, do not go into this movie hoping for a laugh. This movie teaches audience members that there are consequences to every action in life, so everyone must think before they act.

I give “Jigsaw” five out of five stars. This movie is a must-see for anyone who has seen the other seven movies in the series. This is a movie which stands above the other seven films in the series. With the plot twists and interesting concepts throughout the movie, “Jigsaw” is bound to be at the top of the charts for weeks to come.
