French Flower Fundraiser

Maggie Falkenberg, School News Writer

February 14th has long been a day to give gifts to those you love and care for. This Valentine’s Day, the French Club will provide a way to make a special gesture. They will be selling roses (for three dollars) and carnations (for two dollars) the week of February 7th outside the commons during all lunch periods. The flowers ordered will be delivered the following Monday, on Valentine’s Day. The Valentine’s Day flower sale is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Along with the flowers being sold, French culture itself is a symbol of love. The rose is a symbol of love, beauty, and romance, while a carnation, also a symbol of love, also symbolizes admiration and affection. French culture is a well-known symbol of love and romance throughout the world. Its capital Paris has been nicknamed the city of love, and its language is one of the most prevalent Romance languages.

To infuse the French language into the club’s sale, not only will each purchase include the delivery of a flower, but it will also include a fun french phrase in the theme of Valentine’s Day. Each French phrase will have an English translation for those who do not understand the language.  Both the sweet note and flower will be a perfect gift to make a partner’s, friend’s, or special someone’s Valentine’s Day!
