Football kicks off

The first home game for the Glenbard South Football team was a huge success as the Raiders won its second game of the year on Friday, August 31, against Elgin 34-3, setting the mood for a triumphant season in the Upstate Eight Conference(UEC). With the Raider team moving to thenUEC, the team will be competing against larger schools this year. Easing the thoughts of unsuccessfulness in a bigger conference, these first two games were comforting wins for the Raiders.

Quarterback Nick Plaso (Jr.) commenced the first touchdown with a six-yard pass to Trevor Burnett (Fr.). Then in the second quarter, Plaso scored again with a fifty nine-yard run.

Suddenly, halfway through the second quarter, lightning was spotted and delayed the game an hour. The friends and families in the stands were brought into the Glenbard South Field House until it was safe to return to the bleachers.

Coming back from the delay, the Raiders finished the second quarter strong, with Kylen Henderson (Fr.) completing a twenty six-yard run for yet another touchdown.

Approaching the third quarter, Elgin’s fumble cost the Maroons another touchdown, a ten-yard run by South’s Antonio Carter (Sr.). Lastly, Henderson scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Carter shared, “It’s a great feeling scoring any touchdown.” When asked about the rest of the playing season, he responded, “The playing can always get better, but I like the way my coaches are making me adjust. I feel as long as the team keeps a mentality of ‘no one can beat us if we stay as one’ we will do well.”
