Spring sports are getting right back in the full swing of things for this 2021-2022 school year. In particular, girls soccer has been preparing for their season by implementing new drills, conditioning everyday, and pushing each other to be better than they were the day before. The chemistry between these girls is unbelievable and the upcoming season looks promising. Last year, girls soccer went 2-6-1 in the upstate eight conference, where they advanced to the 3rd round of playoffs only to be beat by Saint Francis. This year the girls hope they will be able to become regional champions, and to bring some attention to the girls soccer program at Glenbard South.
This year’s captain is Madeline Sebahar, who usually plays a wide position on offense or defense, and has been playing soccer for 12 years. Sebahar said her favorite memory of playing soccer was, “assisting the game winning goal in our regional championship game my freshman year.” She also said that soccer has taught her that “everyone is valuable in their own way, in and out of the sport they play.” Sebahar hopes to continue playing soccer on an intramural team in college.

Another very prominent player on the girls varsity soccer team is Abby Bergmann, who plays center back on defense. Bergmann has grown up idolizing Carli Lloyd and Virgil Van Dijk ever since she was a little girl, while starting her soccer career with Synergy soccer club. Bergmann’s favorite aspect of soccer is “the people I play with”, and she hopes to play soccer in college once graduating from Glenbard South.
This team is prepared to put in a lot of hard work for the upcoming season. And nothing is going to stop them from getting that regional title.
