Although trends come and go, a good burger will always be a must have and the Chicagoland suburbs have some of the best burgers out there!

After asking many people about their favorite burger place, Portillo’s seemed to be a popular choice. The restaurant has locations all over Illinois, the closest to Glenbard South being at 1500 Butterfield Rd, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Portillo’s ⅓ pound charbroiled burger contains mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and ketchup served on a freshly toasted old fashioned style bun. For a price of $4.59, Portillo’s quality and flavor cannot be beat. Portillo’s selection of burgers include the double burger, bacon burger, and double bacon burger. Even though its burger selection is not very diverse, the burgers are classic; therefore, everyone loves them.

“Portillo’s just has a very classic burger. You can never go wrong with a Portillo’s hamburger. They are so perfect,” burger fanatic and senior MacKenzie Watterson said.

Another well loved burger joint is Smashburger. It is located at Rice Lake Square, 1 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton, IL 60189. Smashburger’s friendly and fast service complements the amazing food. The classic Smash burger is served on a delicious egg bun. The Smash burger contains smash sauce, ketchup, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and American cheese. Smashburger also has a variety of burgers including an avocado club, BBQ bacon and cheddar burger, bacon cheeseburgers, buffalo and blue cheese burger, spicy jalapeno baja burger and spinach and goat cheese burger. The Smash burger is $4.99 for a regular classic and $5.99 for a big classic.

Another well loved burger joint happens to be Meatheads, which is located at Market Plaza Shopping Center, 549 Roosevelt Rd, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Meatheads claims its burgers do not have an additives, fillers and are never frozen. Its ⅓ pound meathead is $5.25, while its ½ pound meathead is $7. The list of free toppings include ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, jalapenos, giardiniera, pineapple, relish, red peppers, sauerkraut and sauteed mushrooms. Meatheads has a very diverse selection of burgers including the Texas ranch burger, the cajun sunrise, patty melt, the Hawaiian burger and the Californian burger. Meatheads also allows one to customize his own burger.

Another very popular burger joint in the area is Flip’s, which is also located at 515 Roosevelt Rd, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Its burger selection is not as diverse as Meatheads or Smashburger, but its burgers are definitely one of the best. Their single burger is priced at $2.50, their triple burger is priced at $4.25 and their ⅓ pound herb infused burger is priced at $4.26. Also, Flip’s refills vary from $0.40 to  $0.60 depending on the size of one’s drink.

All of these burger joints contain numerous options for vegetarians, which is always a plus.
