26862Everyone has known the famous verdict of the O.J. Simpson case, but few people understood all that went on in the courtroom until this television series, “The people v. O.J. Simpson” aired.

Anytime a race is involved in a high profile case such as this, the stakes become that much higher and tensions run high. That is exactly what happened in this case when a predominately white prosecution attempted to take down a prominent black man.

Many know about the Simpson case because of Robert Kardashian’s involvement in it. This involvement is often mentioned in the popular reality T.V. show “Keeping up with the Kardashians.” In “The people v. O.J. Simpson,” Robert Kardashian is played by David Schwimmer who portrays the artless Kardashian. I came to realize while watching the series that it was the guilelessness that made Kardashian such a key player on the defense–no one looked his way, but when he did talk–which was rare–he was accurate, concise and delivered crippling blows to the prosecution’s argument.

Another major character in the series has been Christopher Darden who has been portrayed by Sterling K. Brown. As the lone black man on the prosecution, Darden paralleled Kardashian in that he was in the courtroom fighting for his respective side not because of his personal beliefs, but because of outside circumstances. To be exact, Darden was chosen for the prosecution team solely because they needed a man of color on the prosecution to avoid the case turning into a race issue. Similarly, Kardashian was a loyal friend of O.J.’s and could not easily walk away from O.J.’s request for Kardashian to represent him.

The series is an example of the fact that so much more goes into a court case than simply the facts of the case.
