“Hamilton” is on its way to becoming the biggest critical and commercial hit in all of Broadway history. As one of the most talked about Broadway shows since 2011, “Hamilton” is a huge smash and a must-see for everyone from theatre and history enthusiasts alike.

The show is about  Alexander Hamilton, born in the Caribbean, who leads a difficult life to get to his prestigious status as a founding father of the United States. Hamilton always looks ahead and works hard in order to rise up and never thinks twice about speaking his mind. The stage is set during an uncomfortable time for the nation, the Revolutionary War. As well as the conflict between the United States and Great Britain, Hamilton constantly clashes with his “frenemy,”  Aaron Burr, until the shocking finale that leaves the audience speechless.

There are many other side characters that truly make the show what it is. It also includes a love triangle for the romantics in the audience, so there really is something for everyone. Moreover, the overall theme of the musical is to demonstrate how to rise up to power in different ways shown through the characteristics of Hamilton and Burr.

One of the best things about “Hamilton” is its diversity. Since it is the “story of America then, told by America now,” the cast truly looks like current-day America in that there are people of all colors and all races. With a cast of mostly African American and Latino actors, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show’s composer, writer and lead actor, aims to represent the lives of immigrants and how beneficial they are to America. Once the show makes its way to Chicago, there will be little to no white actors allowed to audition in order to remain true to Miranda’s vision as he aims to make his cast as diverse as possible.

Overall, “Hamilton” is one of the most unique and entertaining shows to ever hit the Broadway stage. As the first musical ever to have Hip Hop and R&B play a big role in the score, it is gaining more and more attention because of this rare quality. Bringing in almost thirty million dollars within the first opening performance, “Hamilton” is making its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing musicals on broadway. Be sure to reserve tickets online when it comes to Chicago in October of 2016. “Hamilton” is not a show to miss.
