How to prevent coronavirus
March 12, 2020
- Wash your hands
Wash your hands with hot water and soap for at least 20 seconds. Do this before and after eating, going to the bathroom and returning from public places. Though, you should always wash your hands if you should.
- Do NOT wear a mask
Medical masks are not an effective measure against coronavirus, they only work for about 20-30 minutes before needing to be changed. Also, the coronavirus is not airborne, masks should be saved for medical professionals and current COVID-19 positive patients.
- Do NOT attend school if sick
Regardless of if you do or do not have the symptoms of coronavirus, do not attend school if you are sick. You can infect your peers with whatever virus you have, such as Influenza A or B. It is best to stay at home until no longer contagious.
- Cover your mouth
When coughing or sneezing, always cover your mouth. Do not cough or sneeze freely into the air or your hand, muffle your mouth into the crook or your elbow or a tissue if available.
- Get tested
If you or a loved one experiences the symptoms of coronavirus; fever, cough, shortness of breath, or have been exposed to the virus, get tested at the hospital. Local hospitals, like Northwestern, have tests available and ready for people experiencing symptoms.
