Now you see it, now you don’t

Snapchat, one of the most unique apps on the market, has undergone many changes since its initial release in 2011. Snapchat started as an image messaging and multimedia application that allows users to share quick photo and video messages as well as receive messages from their friends.

150 million people use Snapchat every day, making it more popular than Twitter, which now has 140 million daily users. Interestingly, Snapchat’s popularity has come from its unmatched ability to evolve, offering frequent updates that made the app more user-friendly and engaging.

The first of these updates came in December 2012, when the app introduced video sharing. Then, in October 2013, Snapchat introduced stories, which allowed users to share photos and videos that could be viewed any number of times within 24 hours of posting. This update proved to be very successful with 45% of Snapchat users posting stories at least once a week.

Other notable updates include geofilters, which are location-based decorative tags that can be put on a photo or video; face filters, called Lenses, which change the appearance of the user’s face by adding new features; and Memories, where the user can save their snaps and view them later in an in-app gallery of his saved snaps.

Recently, Glenbard South has taken interest in the features of Snapchat as a way to boost school spirit. There are currently two active geofilters for the school. Then, during football season South had a geofilter that posted real-time football scores.

Snapchat has become an interactive application that maintains relevance through innovative updates, keeping it user-based engaged while offering a fun and unique platform to connect with others.
