PSN DDos Hacks

Sony has always been known for making great gaming consoles, but there is always a flaw. Everyone one of their online gaming consoles have been DDos’d to the point where everyone’s internet connection shuts down who owns a sony console. A DDos hack is the Denial of Service to a single system. It shuts down everyones internet that is connected to that one system. A couple years back PSN was hacked and shut down on Christmas day because of a group called the Lizard Squad. “[PSN] should have more than enough funding to protect against these attacks,” said Lizard Squad member.

The Lizard Squad had shut down the software for multiple days ruining many children’s holidays as they wanted to spend time playing their new games. That was not even the worst of PSN attacks. In 2011, 77 million registered PSN accounts were lost due to hackers. The hackers managed to shut down Playstation Network for a total of twenty-three days. This left the community furious at Sony because it could not get it back and running quick.

Sony has always struggled trying to stop hackers from DDosing. Whereas Microsoft has always managed to keep its systems under control. Why can’t Sony? Sony is faced with DDos attacks almost everyday, but sometimes the hackers are more intelligent with their work and can do a lot more damage such as shutting down Playstation Network for a month.

Microsoft has also never faced and outage of great length like Sony has. It has a much more secure network. This has left the community frustrated and wanting to switch its consoles to a Microsoft one.

Whereas Sony needs to find a better defense system for their consoles or get workers who can stop these attacks from happening. Stopping hackers should not be a daily routine. It should be something that happens once in a blue moon. Sony needs to solve this problem quickly to make the community feel safe again.
