Chicago Teachers Walkout
April 8, 2016
On, April 2, 2016, the Chicago Teachers’ Union held a one day strike in the streets of Chicago. The Chicago Teachers’ Union is an organization of educational workers who promote quality public education, improved teaching conditions and protection of members’ rights.
On Friday, teachers began a demonstration against budget cuts. These teachers also held signs and performed rallies at various Chicago college campuses. Unfortunately, the strike, known as the “Day of Action,” cancelled classes for over 300 thousand students. This rally began at Thompson Center and moved to Grant Park, and the purpose of this rally was to draw attention to the union’s goal of Illinois lawmakers funding public education.
