On Sunday, February 22nd, the annual night of elaborate ball gown dresses, playoff music and golden awards commences: the Oscars. All the movies that have been seen and loved by the general public were considered by the Academy. The performances that were applauded, the writing that captured hearts and the soundtracks that made it soar. So…here are the nominees.

Whiplash: A promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student’s potential.
The Theory of Everything: The relationship between the famous physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife.
