This year, the Open was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, NY. The Open is divided between two different events: Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles. Each division crowns only with a trophy and the title of the U.S. Open Tennis Champion. This year’s U.S. Open Champion inWomen’s Singles was Aryana Sabalenka. This did not come as a complete shock to the world, given that she won the title last year. Aryana Sabalenka defended her title by defeating Amanda Anisimova back to back 6-3, and then again 6-3. Aryana Sabalenka was a poised opponent, committing only 15 errors throughout the entire match. Sabalenka is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2012 to win back-to-back U.S. Open Titles. Her titles are well deserved, after seeing her commitment to the sport. After the match, she knelt in tears of joy saying: “It’s just crazy, I love the support”.
Shifting focus to Men’s Singles, there were five very strong qualifiers for the third round: Coleman Wong, Leandro Riedi, Jan-Lennard Struff, Ugo Blanchet, and Jérôme Kym. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner. Carlos Alcaraz defeated several tough opponents and ended up winning straight sets early. Additionally, Jannik Sinner made it through to the quarters and semis with some notably strong performances. Both strong competitors dueled for the title. Jannik Sinner won the U.S. Open in 2024 and now is fighting to defend his title. Alcaraz came out hot, breaking early and shooting aggressively, which set the tone. Sinner was not going to let up easily. He came back the next round, winning 6-1. On the final championship point, Alcaraz served an ace to win it all. This win certainly confirmed Alcaraz’s status as the number one player in the world.
