From underground artist to well-known pop star, Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer Tate McRae has been rising in popularity. Her lyrical style focuses on topics of heartbreak, love and self-discovery, which makes it no wonder that McRae’s songs appeal to many teenagers and young adults. The use of elaborate, original outfits and a personal twist on the genre have made McRae a focal point in the reinvention of pop music.
McRae’s career started with the release of her first EP, “All the Things I Never Said,” and her rise to fame since 2020 has been nothing short of inspirational. After releasing another EP the following year, McRae released her debut studio album, “I Used to Think I Could Fly,” in 2022. It was critically acclaimed for her lyrical style and artistic growth. It even peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2022, which helped her begin her journey to becoming a well-known pop artist. In 2023, her second studio album, “Think Later,” continued McRae’s rise in popularity internationally. Her latest album, “So Close To What,” was released in February. It skyrocketed in both streams and sales. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, hitting milestones that McRae did not imagine achieving when she first began creating her own songs.
Following “So Close To What,” she announced her “Miss Possessive” tour to promote her new album. The world tour began March 18 and is set to end on Nov. 8, 2025. So far, it has been extremely successful while also marking McRae’s very first arena headlining tour. Additionally, the tour achieved very high box office numbers, with memorable performances in North America and Europe. After her most recent studio album, she decided to collaborate with the filmmakers of “Formula 1: The Movie”, where she was offered the opportunity to release a brand-new single called “Just Keep Watching.” Unsurprisingly, the single was a success for McRae.
It is clear that McRae has reached major milestones, not only for herself, but by inspiring and encouraging others to pursue their dreams. She continues to be a leading role model for other artists while also being relatable and transparent with her fans. Although she has not yet announced any major plans for after her tour, there is no doubt that she will continue to create music that reshapes the music industry.
