On March 21, the Little Theater will be opening its doors to all kinds of creatives. Each year, the Creative Writing Club’s Open Mic Night draws a broad crowd, bringing in plenty of current South students and faculty while retaining its pull on alumni and others in the community. No matter who they are, though, all attendees can expect a night filled with the perfect balance of thought-provoking performances and gut-splitting laughter. In the past, all who took to the stage made the night their own through a variety of artistic avenues, including those of vocal music, comedy and, of course, some stellar slam poems. Typically, the night features at least one standing ovation.
The stage will be lit and the mic truly open, the speaking order for the night determined simply by a sign-up sheet present at the event. If a performer consents via this sheet, they can even be filmed for the Creative Writing Club’s social media. Slots have been known to fill up quickly once any collective stage fright subsides, so anyone eager to entertain should get their name down when they arrive and prepare to deliver a performance graciously punctuated by snaps and claps alike.
Admission to the event itself is free, but any and all who feel inspired by the talent displayed throughout the night are encouraged to consider donating to the fund for the Creative Writing Club’s annually-published literary magazine. This magazine will include some of the work performed during the evening as well as some exclusive pieces. Donations in the forms of cash and checks made out to Glenbard South High School are more than welcome and will ensure that these young authors are not only heard, but read.
