2025 is the fourth year in a row that the Glenbard South Dance Team has qualified for State. After competing in many local school’s competitions, the Dance team proved their strength in their performance, which qualified them for regionals and sectionals. The Dance team went on to score fourth place in class 3A at the Sycamore sectional, which was a high enough score to advance the team to State. This joyful victory left the dancers with high hopes for their competition a few days to come in Bloomington, Illinois, where they would dance at Illinois State University. On January 30, Glenbard South held a special send-off for the members of the Varsity Dance team, in the auditorium. As each dancer’s name was called to be recognized, their Coach, Haley Kruis, awarded them with a sweatshirt souvenir for their qualification to State. Before leaving, each dancer signed their name on an Illinois state qualifiers board located near the auditorium. This board has become a new tradition for the state qualifying athletes of Glenbard South, who can sign the board as recognition of their hard work. The team received a warm send-off from family and friends before making their way to the bus to Bloomington.
Once at the Grossinger Motors Arena, the dancers prepared themselves for the jam-packed day of watching other teams dance, and later, their own performance. On Friday, January 31, Glenbard South Dance Team took the stage at 1:29 pm. They danced to Mylie Cyrus’ emotional hit “The Climb.” Each dancer put forward their best effort with flawless technique and emotional energy. After performing, they settled in to await their score. Overall, the team earned 13th place in the state. Despite their score being honorable, it was not enough to qualify for the second day of competition. This wrapped up their 2025 competition season, leaving many dancers proud, and the seniors Bella Hollis, Audrey Biancalana and Chloe Gelber sentimental.
Kate Miller, a junior, has been on the Varsity Dance Team for 2 years. This year was her second time going to state as well. Miller reflected on the competition season with pride but also recognized her goals for the upcoming year. Miller stated that next year she would like to “work extra hard in order to be back on day two, and prove that we are capable of making finals.” As for now, the dancers will perform at some remaining Glenbard South basketball games and continue to practice weekly throughout the summer. The Glenbard South Dance Team wrapped up their 2025 season by celebrating their success, and sharing excitement for the future, while cherishing the memories made with the graduating seniors.
