From multiple touchdowns to the downfall of the team, the Chicago Bears have experienced one of their worst seasons yet, and it is easy to pinpoint the exact moment it started. The Bears had an optimistic beginning to their season with an impressive preseason game record of 5-0; thanks to the drafting of their star quarterback, Caleb Williams. Fans were fighting to keep their spirits up in hopes of a better season ahead after last year’s mediocre season, with an overall record of 7-10. The Bears continued on to have a promising start, winning four games and only losing two very close games to the Texans and Colts. However, this luck did not last very long.
As game seven rolled around, the Bears were set to play the Washington Commanders on Oct. 27 at Northwest Stadium. The team seemed to be confident in their ability to win against the Commanders, but, by the third quarter, the Washington team was winning 12-7. With 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Roschon Johnson scored the Bears a touchdown and brought them to what they thought would be a victory. All they needed to do was prevent the Commanders from scoring a very unlikely Hail Mary touchdown. Underestimating their competition, the Bears let their guard down. Instead of swatting at the football, they bounced it over their heads and sent it into the end zone. There, Commander Noah Brown was waiting to catch the ball and score the game-winning touchdown.
This disappointing and embarrassing loss was the beginning of many for the Bears. They went on to dramatically lose two more games against the Cardinals and Patriots, completely defying everything their preseason record proved. Now, with only a few games left in their season, the outlook for more Bears wins is not exactly bright. Their upcoming games are against the Vikings, Lions, 49ers and Seahawks. Unfortunately, the only game the Bears are predicted to possibly win is their matchup against the Seahawks, for which they only have a 53% chance of winning. To add to this snowballing chaos, the Bears just recently fired their offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron. It will be interesting to see if their offense will benefit from this decision. Fans wonder if the Bears will make a comeback or leave the rest of their season to fall to the same fate as their most recent two games.
