Sabrina Carpenter released her 6th studio album, “Short N’ Sweet”, on August 23rd. Since then, the album has been breaking numerous records and topping the charts. The critically acclaimed pop album earned number one on the Billboard 200 chart after a strenuous battle against Travis Scott’s “Days Before Rodeo”. The album has also managed to keep three of its twelve songs within the top ten on the Billboard 100 chart since its release, making Sabrina Carpenter the first-ever female artist to chart three songs within the top ten for seven consecutive weeks. Many people had high hopes for Short N’ Sweet after the release of the outstanding singles “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please” and were not disappointed with the outcome they received. Fans were posting and sharing their reactions to the album, whether it was about the songs making them scream and shout or cry their hearts out. So, why does it feel like Carpenter’s rise to fame came out of nowhere?
Well, if you have been a fan of the popstar for at least three years you would know that this has been a long journey for her, and one that has come with blood, sweat and tears. Carpenter’s rise to fame is no coincidence; she has been in the music industry for over a decade, and many know her from Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World”. So if this is true, then why is now the first time most people are hearing about her? That is partly due to contracts and marketing. Back in 2013, Carpenter was in a five-album deal with Hollywood Records. The label was owned by Disney and failed to promote her correctly, causing her to fade into the background for a couple of years. That is the main reason why her first 4 albums are mostly unheard of. Carpenter officially broke off the deal in 2020 and signed a new contract with Island Records in January of 2021, but that change still was not the start of the fame she has now. The hit single “Espresso” was released on April 11th of 2024, right before Carpenter’s Coachella performance. From that point on, the song would forever be known as the song that introduced Sabrina Carpenter to millions of fans. Because of the massive success “Espresso” had, Carpenter was able to ride that wave while also adding to it. Her team created a brand and embraced it, utilizing specific traits Carpenter could be known for, a crucial factor for an upcoming pop star. Some think Carpenter’s fame will be short lasting, while others think she is here to stay. This reviewer has been a fan for quite a long time and knows she’s got what it takes to hold on to this star power for as long as she wants it.
If you are interested in seeing Carpenter now, you might be able to catch a scrapped ticket to one of her upcoming shows on her sold-out “Short N’ Sweet” arena tour. The tour is a massive hit amongst fans and has surprises to keep attendees guessing every night. However, one way to support Carpenter from your own home this holiday season will be to stream her upcoming special on Netflix, titled “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter” on December 6th. But for now, just keep streaming her music and singing along to those catchy lyrics. Carpenter will always keep proving to the public that they indeed can not blame a girl for trying.
