The Glenbard South boys’ golf team had a successful 2023 season. The team had an 8-1 record in the conference led by Coach Phil Yudys. The boys have shown improvement throughout the season causing them to obtain a good record for conference.
The team had their only loss coming from South Elgin, however, they were able to place 2nd in both the Willowbrook Invite and the District 87 invite. The boys have shown amazing potential, shooting a team low score of the year at regionals. Two variety individuals were qualified for sectionals this year, those individuals being Ethan Noellesh, junior, and Nick Windeler, senior. Sectionals are where the individuals with the lowest scores from each regional will be able to advance to the finals and be able to play again after the season has ended.
Like all coaches, Coach Yuduys provides the glue that holds the boys’ golf team together. When asked about his experience coaching the boys’ golf team Coach Yuduys responded with, “I am a Glenbard South grad myself, and coming back to coach at the school that gave me so much was a great opportunity. I am a PGA professional at Glen Oak Country Club, so having a profession in the game of golf and being able to coach at GBS was a great match. My golf coach Scott IIiff (former GBS Physics teacher) had such a big impact in my life, I wanted to try to have an impact on young golfers as well.” “It is such a fast season, only 8 weeks long. It is great to get to connect with each player throughout the season. I love how far they have all come from the start of the season to the end,” said Yuduys
Throughout the years of Glenbard South boy’s golf, there has always been a great rivalry between Glenbard East and South Elgin. All 3 schools try their hardest to obtain conference titles against one another. This year, however, the boys had their only loss coming from South Elgin, proving that as one works hard the closer the goal will become. We wish luck to Ethan and Nick at sectionals and, hopefully, later on qualifying for state.
