The school year has begun and so has a new schedule at Glenbard South. In May of 2023, Principal Santee introduced a new schedule for the upcoming year. Students were able to give their input to see how the schedule would work. This year’s schedule will include a new part of the day called “Raider Hour”.
This additional period occurs between second and third period on Mondays and Fridays. Raider Hour includes agency and advisory days. On advisory days, students participate in SEL learning, lessons confined to their particular grade and school-wide virtual events. On agency days, students have a choice of where to go. Students can choose to go to the math lab, walk the track, study in a group in the library and so many other options. However, teachers and administrators have the ability to override a student’s choice. This way students are getting help in a certain area if their teacher or administrator deems it necessary.
Glenbard South students are starting to adjust to the new change in their day. Sophomore class president, Liv Abbott, gave her opinion on Raider Hour saying, “I think that Raider Hour is a good way to not take up class time and it’s going to be an opportunity for kids to come in, retake tests and get extra help instead of coming in the morning or after school.” Abbott concluded that, “Kids will be able to stay on top of their work in their classes.” Ultimately, students and teachers are collaborating to make Raider Hour work for everyone.
