Baseball and Softball Start Spring Season

The Glenbard South baseball and softball seasons are in full swing this year! After facing the struggles and impacts of COVID-19 during the past year, baseball and softball have come back hopeful for a regular season. Although the two seasons have just begun, games werehave already been scheduled for earlier thisthis month, with the baseball team’s first game on March 16th and the softball team’s first game scheduled onfor March 22nd.
Since the end of February, the Glenbard South baseball team has returned for yet another season. Fortunately, the COVID restrictions did not have a large impact on the 2021 season as the sport easily followed the regulations put in place, such as social distancing. Regardless, the team has been eager to come back together in less severe circumstances to represent Glenbard South on the baseball field.
The baseball team had their first game on Wednesday, March 16th against Montini Catholic, but unfortunately they fell a few runs short, and ended the game with the score 10-7, Montini. Despite the score the team played hard throughout and when asked about the game, varsity pitcher Christian Pogorzelski said, “this game was far more competitive than last year’s game against Montini, as a team there was a lot more energy and eagerness to win”. Overall the team is looking forward to the practices and games to come. The JV baseball team also played Montini Catholic and came up short with the score 11-4, Montini. Raider softball is back and ready for a new spring season! Despite fluctuating weather in recent weeks, the softball teams have persevered and began training in the beginning of March. The team has high hopes and positive attitudes towards their 2022 season, a returning varsity player Hannah Rafferty-Flatter, a junior, stated, “although games have not started, we can already see a lot of improvement in the team and everyone is starting to build chemistry so I’m really excited for the season”. Although the softball team has lost a number of senior players from last season, the returners are confident in the team’s ability to adapt and perform well.
The first game of the season wasis scheduled for Tuesday, March 22nd against Wheaton North. When asked about preparation for the first game, another returner toof the varsity team, Amelia Lake, a junior, said, “We’ve been working really hard in practice especially with just talking more and being a team. I feel pretty good about the game coming up. I think the hard work in practice will pay off ”. Players and fans cannot wait for the season in store for the Raiders softball team.
