Cultural awareness at South

Olivia Kempfe, Writer

Are you interested in learning and sharing African American culture? BEATS is a club that focuses primarily on the spread of awareness of African American culture. They discuss recent topics of interest regarding African Americans. The mission statement of BEATS is “a group of diverse students creating an atmosphere of oneness and unity by bringing awareness to educational and social climates of African American Culture.”

The leaders of BEATS are currently juniors John Madison and Kyran Brown. Some recent topics that have been discussed in BEATS have been the NFL’s stance on players kneeling during the national anthem and gun control in the United States.

The club is open to all students and has plenty of open spots for new members.

BEATS meets the first Wednesday of every month in room 64. Feel free to come in and be ready to discuss important issues regarding African American culture.
