Examining Apple Pay

Neal Choksi, Cutting Edge Writer

Apple Pay, Apple’s newest iOS feature allows users to pay for everyday expenses from the luxury of their phone. Apple Pay is compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch devices, iPhone 5 and later models, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.

Additionally, Apple Pay is different from the other mobile wallets because users do not have to set up an account and verify their identity to the service. Other mobile wallet services have flopped because of the necessities in making an account, verifying identity, placing money into the account and constantly checking in the amount in the service.

Apple Pay works by placing credit, debit or gift cards on to users iPhones. When the user’s purchase is being rung up, the customer then selects the card they want to use and they use the finger ID to verify the payment. One quick wave over the credit swiping machine and the phone will pay for the purchase.

Furthermore, Apple Pay can be set up by combining cards with the passbook app on the phone, and verifying the card is yours. The Apple Pay setup is a very easy thing to do for anyone with the phone.

Additionally, Apple pay is incredibly safe because the phone does not keep the numbers of the card but instead keeps an unique encrypted device account on a dedicated chip in the iPhone. If a user loses their phone, Apple Pay can be turned off through iCloud. Finally, if that is not enough security for the skeptics, Apple Pay from iPhones requires the use of the finger ID capability.

Finally, Apple Pay is useful with stores nationwide because of store’s reward cards. Any store such as Sports Authority or Starbucks have reward card programs where the user gets a card. With the use of the Apple Pay, the cards can be inputted onto the Passbook app. This will allow the user to carry one less card while still getting the rewards.

Apple has continuously brought user-friendly products and software to the world. With Apple Pay, users can pay for everyday items with the convenience of paying from their iPhones.
