The Raider wrestling team has been prepared for the upcoming season. To begin with, the Raiders will return seven varsity wrestlers from last year, including state qualifier senior Talha Ayhan.
Ayhan, and the other varsity wrestlers, have felt confident going into this upcoming season. “It was hard to believe I made it to state last year,” Ayhan said. “I dropped about 25 pounds, and it was very difficult to maintain the weight. Now my goal this year is to utterly place in state, and with the great coaching we have, it could be done. I’m very excited for this upcoming season. We have some real talent at all weight classes. Behind our coaches, our team could have a special year.”
Senior Anthony Stramaglia has been motivated coming into this season. “I’m very excited for this season. We’ve really hit the ground running,” Stramaglia said. “Coach Crenshaw is really working us hard, and everybody is responding well. I can’t wait to see how the season turns out.”
Furthermore, the Raiders returning seven will be a tough bunch. The Raiders will return with seniors Ayhan, Vince Marra, Nick Ruiz, Jayson Powell, Justin Squillo, junior Adam Haushan and sophomore Justin Trotter. All these returning wrestlers have made it to regionals with both Ayhan and Marra reaching sectionals. In addition, Ayhan was the lone state qualifier. No doubt the expectations will be high for the Raiders this winter.
With that being said, the Raiders next meet will be Thursday, December 15 at IC Catholic Prep starting at 5 p.m.
